Shutters are a unique product in the world of window coverings and come with their own set of names and lingo. Here is a visual :
Louvers, Tiltrod, Center Alignment Bar, CLearview, UltraClear, stile, frame, rail, divider rail, panel, Frame
The frame is the part that is nailed or screwed to your wall and goes around the whole panel.
Panels are the part(s) of the shutter that you can open into your room. Attached to the frame at the hinges on one side and magnets or button catches on the other.
Louvers are the slats you look through on a shutter
The Tiltrod, sometimes called Center Alignment Bar, is what you hold to move the Louvers up or down
Clear View or Ultra Clear Shutters have the tilting mechanism built in to the stile of the shutter so it is not seen at all.
Mousehole: This is a small piece carved out on the top rail for the Tiltrod to sit in so it makes the louvers close tightly.
The Stile is the vertical piece at either side of the panel.
The Rail is the horizontal piece at the top or bottom of the louvers. When an additional rail is placed in between top and bottom louvers, it is called a Divider Rail.
