‘What do I do with my small sidelight (the tall narrow window by the door)? This is a question we are frequently asked. With openings often of just 10-15 inches wide, people assume nothing can be done and it’s just one area where they will have to give up the comfort of privacy. We are happy to dispel this misconception!
There are many options for sidelights. Shutters, Blinds, Honeycomb or Duette Shades. With Shutters, we like to use an outside mount frame that makes the opening and the louvers as large as they can be. With Blinds and Shades, the greatest difference (from the larger window openings) is that you have fewer choices in lifting systems. Blinds are a good answer if it goes with the rest of your home, but it is likely that you will not be able to raise and lower your blinds though you can turn the slats open or closed. Honeycomb or Duette Shades are also a good option if that is more the style of your home. The only drawback here is that sometimes the opening is too narrow to go with a cordless blind. So, it requires a standard Cordlock lifting system.
Also, with the constant innovation in window fashions, fabrics and operating systems continue to evolve and more options become available!
